Siemens has finalized its $10 billion acquisition of Altair Engineering, a global leader in industrial AI and simulation software. This strategic move enhances Siemens’ capabilities in mechanical and electromagnetic simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), and data science, further expanding its industrial software portfolio.
By integrating Altair’s technology into its Xcelerator platform, Siemens aims to create the most comprehensive AI-driven design, engineering, and simulation suite. Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AG, emphasized how this acquisition will help customers innovate at the speed and complexity required in today’s digital landscape.
Altair’s flagship tool, HyperWorks, specializes in complex physics simulations, including structural analysis, fluid dynamics, and electromagnetics. These capabilities will strengthen Siemens’ digital twin technology, making simulation more accessible across industries and enabling companies to optimize manufacturing and design processes
This acquisition aligns with Siemens’ ONE Tech Company initiative, focused on leveraging AI, connected technologies, and sustainability. Altair’s expertise will allow customers to perform advanced simulations—such as virtual crash tests—accelerating product development while reducing costs and environmental impact
Altair’s addition also reinforces Siemens’ commitment to the U.S. market, complementing its recent factory expansions in California and Texas. Over the past two decades, Siemens has invested more than $100 billion in the country.
Altair’s solutions will now be part of Siemens Xcelerator, providing businesses with cutting-edge AI and HPC tools to drive innovation. With this acquisition, Siemens continues its mission to merge the physical and digital worlds, helping companies bring complex products to market faster, more efficiently, and sustainably.
