German healthtech startup Amboss has secured a major boost in its global expansion plans after raising €240 million (US$260 million) in fresh funding. The Amboss medical software funding round was led by Kirkbi, Lightrock, and M&G Investments, with strong support from existing backers, the company announced on March 25, 2025.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Berlin, Amboss has built a reputation as a go-to platform for medical students and healthcare professionals. Its software offers advanced study tools for aspiring doctors and a comprehensive clinical reference database designed to support medical decisions for practitioners worldwide.

Today, Amboss serves more than one million users across 180 countries, with particularly strong footholds in Germany and the United States.

Co-CEO Benedikt Hochkirchen shared that the latest funding will power the company’s technology upgrades and support its ambitions to expand into new markets. “Our mission has always been to empower healthcare professionals with the knowledge they need to provide the best care possible. This investment allows us to strengthen our platform and reach even more users globally,” Hochkirchen explained.

Amboss plans to channel the funds into enhancing its AI-driven tools and deepening its clinical content — further positioning itself as a trusted digital companion for the next generation of medical professionals.

With this new investment, Amboss joins a growing wave of European healthtech companies attracting significant capital as healthcare systems worldwide increasingly turn to technology for better training, decision support, and patient care.
