Microsoft has rolled out a new update for Windows Insider users in the Beta and Canary channels, bringing AI-powered enhancements to Notepad and new drawing tools to the Snipping Tool.
Under the latest Notepad version 11.2501.29.0, Microsoft introduces Copilot AI to help users summarize text efficiently. By selecting text, right-clicking, and choosing ‘Summarize’ (or using Ctrl + M), users receive a concise AI-generated summary.
This feature is particularly useful for scanning long documents, notes, or paragraphs quickly. Additionally, users can adjust the summary length and toggle the feature on or off via the app’s settings. However, access is limited to Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Copilot Pro subscribers, who must use AI credits to utilize this tool.
Microsoft has also introduced a ‘Recent Files’ menu, enabling users to easily reopen previously edited documents. Located under the ‘File’ menu, this addition enhances navigation and workflow efficiency. Users who prefer not to keep a record of recent files can clear the list or disable the feature in Notepad’s settings.
‘Draw & Hold’ Precision Drawing in Snipping Tool Aside Notepad Enhancement
Alongside Notepad’s AI enhancements, Snipping Tool version 11.2502.18.0 now includes a ‘Draw & Hold’ feature for improved shape accuracy.
When using the pen tool, users can draw lines, arrows, rectangles, or ovals. By holding the cursor or stylus still for a moment, the drawn stroke automatically converts into a clean shape. Users can resize, move, or edit the shapes before finalizing their edits, making annotation more precise.
Microsoft has also refined the Snipping Tool’s protocol, allowing developers to customize capture features when invoked from third-party apps. This enhances security, flexibility, and integration with modern web-based applications.
These updates reflect Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to AI-driven productivity improvements, helping users streamline tasks across Windows applications.
