Salesforce has entered into an agreement to acquire Convergence, a fast-growing AI agent startup based in London, in a strategic move to strengthen its Agentforce platform and stay ahead in the rapidly intensifying race to deliver agentic workflow automation.
Founded in 2023 by former Cohere employees, Convergence is building AI assistants capable of handling day-to-day digital tasks like email management, calendar scheduling, grocery shopping, and even holiday bookings. The company raised a $12 million seed round in September 2024, led by Balderton Capital, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Shopify, and Revolut CTO Vladyslav Yatsenko.
Balderton’s James Wise noted in a since-edited LinkedIn post that the firm earned a 300% internal rate of return on its investment—underscoring how fast the AI agent market is delivering value.
Convergence Joins Salesforce to Scale Agentforce
According to Salesforce, Convergence’s core team and technology will be integrated into the company’s Agentforce platform, further enhancing its offering of enterprise-grade AI agents for customer service and employee productivity.
“The next wave of customer interaction and employee productivity will be driven by highly capable AI agents,” said Adam Evans, EVP at Salesforce. “Convergence’s adaptive, intelligent agent design is incredibly impressive.”
The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2026, with the full Convergence team joining Salesforce post-acquisition.
Convergence has assembled a world-class team of AI researchers and engineers with experience at Google DeepMind, Meta, OpenAI, and PolyAI, making it a natural fit for Salesforce’s ambition to lead in enterprise AI automation.
AI Agent Competition Is Heating Up
Salesforce’s move comes amid a broader arms race in AI-powered workplace tools. Startups and tech giants alike are rapidly deploying tools to automate everything from note-taking and meeting summaries to project planning and task execution:
- Granola, a UK-based AI note-taking app, just raised $43M at a $250M valuation
- Swedish AI workplace platform Sana secured $55M at a $500M valuation in late 2024
- OpenAI and Anthropic both launched collaborative AI agents for workplace productivity last year
- US-based Notion rolled out its own AI meeting assistant tool this week, expanding its $10B product ecosystem
With the Convergence AI acquisition, Salesforce is positioning itself to not only compete with these fast-scaling startups but also challenge Big Tech players like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon in the rapidly evolving enterprise AI landscape.
